Its been a wee while since I updated my Newsletter.
Here’s some helpful (I hope) info for you
1. Festive Extensions
For those who have said yes to Seasonal Variations on your Operating Plans there will be extra hours trading to be had over the Festive Period 2014 / 2015. Check your own Board’s web site
Here is the Glasgow policy
Part A: Festive Period
Monday 1 December 2014 to Friday 2 January 2015
Part B: Licensed Premises within the City Centre
Mondays to Sundays: one additional hour beyond the terminal hour for the sale of
alcohol for consumption on the premises throughout the Festive Period.
Part C: Licensed Premises outwith the City Centre
Fridays and Saturdays during the Festive Period, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day,
Boxing Day, Hogmanay and New Year’s Day: one additional hour beyond the terminal
hour for the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises.
No application necessary for these, If you said NO to Seasonal Variations then you will have to apply for these hours on 21 / 28 days notice.
2. Training
We are not out of the woods yet re Refresher Training – arguably we never will emerge!
The obligation is on going to complete Refresher Training within 5 years of the grant of your Personal Licence and to Notify your Licensing Board within 5 years 3 months of the date of its issue.
If you were one of the first Personal Licence Holders as at 01 September 2009 the deadline for completing Refresher Training was 31 August 2014 and Notifying your Board is 30 November 2014.
So if I were a licensed business operator I would be trawling through all my staffs’ Personal Licences looking for the due dates to complete the Refresher Training and get on with it.
IMPORTANT You can do the Refresher Training anytime within 5 years of the issue of the Personal Licence. You don’t have to wait 5 years. You could sit it 5 minutes after the original Personal Licence grant and then relax for the next 10 years.

3. Licensing Compliance Healthcheck
Be 1 step ahead of the authorities and avoid being yellow carded, closed down and / or prosecuted. I offer both my Glasgow based Licensing clients and Training clients a visit and compliance update re Notices, Licences, Training records etcetera. Only £150 per unit.
4. Learning.
Always making sacrifices for my clients and ever hungry in the pursuit of knowledge and learning I shall be attending the SLLP ESSENTIAL LICENSING UPDATE 1 day conference in Glasgow on 05 December. Watch this space for further pearls of wisdom
5. Festive Period arrangements
I will be away overseas for 3 weeks over the Festive period from 19 December to 10 January in pursuit of leisure, enlightenment and family contentment. Many Boards will close down for a lot of this period but I will be available online and by Skype / phone if necessary and have contingency plans in place for holiday cover. My training courses will run until 11 December for full Personal Licence and 16 December for Refresher Training and resume mid January 2015.
